The Creative Europe invests in actions that reinforce cultural diversity and respond to the needs and challenges of the cultural and creative sectors.

The main objectives of the programme are to:

  • safeguard, develop and promote European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage
  • increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and creative sectors, in particular the audiovisual sector.

The Creative Europe programme is divided in 3 strands: Culture, Media and Cross-Sectorial.

T hisPLACED

Europe is a continent with plenty of different landscapes and cultures. At a regional level, key features like territory, natural & human landscape, cultural heritage, architecture, folklore and myths, are the main elements that play a role in the definition of a particular cultural identity and of a specific territorial imagery.

While some European regions (mainly linked to major touristic destinations) are very well characterized in terms of valorisation of their cultural identity due to their distinctive cultural imagery, there are still many other underrated regions across the continent whose regional identity is not as clear nor consolidated to the outer world.

DISCOVER NOW

Compared to the already funded initiatives, the proposed project presents innovative aspects at different levels. In the first instance, ThisPLACED proposes a transnational multi-stakeholder’ collaborative methodology according to which different kind of actors, from CH experts and cultural operators to artists and representatives of the broader society, will come together and will cooperate for the reshaping of the regional cultural identities of their own places of living and operating.

NETWORKING

To connect the 4 territorial imageries through transnational networking, cultural exchange and digitization.

INCREASE

To increase the public’s access, knowledge and interest towards the core authentic heritage of undervalued/remote areas.

Representatives of the cultural sector at local
Representatives of the cultural sector at local, national, and European/international level, among which cultural institutions staff and operators (museums, archives, libraries, galleries), public administrators and policy makers, cultural associations, events managers, etc. They will be included in all project activities. In the first instance, cultural sector representatives will be one of the pillar target groups composing the Local Hubs, and the Transnational Network, and will be consecutively involved in all crucial points of the project implementation, from the drafting of the shared roadmap and the transnational action plan till the piloting and implementation phases. In the second instance, the training programme will be intended to them (especially cultural institutions museums and staff), with the aim of allowing their upskilling and capacity building by providing them with new knowledge, skills and tools to return a proper narration, storytelling and promotion of the regional territories and their cultural heritage. Through the activities to be implemented in WP4, especially the Cultural Atlantes and the Displaced Festival, they will have the opportunity to test on field the new acquired skills and know how.
Local communities and citizens in a broader sense
Local communities and citizens in a broader sense. Many local citizens will be directly involved in a series of collaborative actions and co-authorial workshops by participating directly in the reshaping of the cultural identities and imageries of their own regions. By doing so they will beneficiate from a reconsolidated link with their territories of living. The other members of the local communities will benefit from an expanded offer of cultural initiatives, from the presence of international artists coming from abroad within their territories, and from all the indirect consequences of a renewed interest towards their regions.
Visual and multimedia artists
Visual and multimedia artists will represent another crucial target group of the project. The 16 artists (among which painters, sculptors, photographers, video-makers and documentarists, musicians, and composers) will come from the participating pilot cases and will be especially active by using their creative expressions to represent, communicate and return the regional imageries conveyed through artistic works. Trough the participation in the project, the engaged artists will have the opportunity to make a step forward in their creative path, benefitting from the international exchange experiences, mutual sharing and new stimulating inputs coming from the project implementation. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity of exercising the artistic profession within and for their territories of origin. Finally, by joining a transnational network, they will have the opportunity of amplifying the echo of their artistic works at the European level.
